Artist Statement
This work explores the American dream through the perspective of AAPI immigrants and refugees such as myself and my own family using noodles as a symbol. A quintessential food to the Asian diet and thus identity, noodles are also a means to climb the socio-economic ladders in society. Whether by opening popular noodle restaurants for economic gains or by consuming cheap instant noodles to reduce living expenses, noodles have become an integrated part of the American dream, American society, American cuisine and culture. Though the form and color might be different, the American dream remains the same for all Americans: a home to live and thrive and love.
